Battery and EV startup joins forces with large global group
Gothenburg’s Anodox Group and Sri Lankan multinational Orel Group have unveiled a new strategic partnership. Green energy, sustainable mobility and artificial intelligence will be in focus.
Headquartered in Partille, Gothenburg, Anodox has its roots in the city’s advanced automotive cluster. It manufactures and supplies battery solutions and offers engineering services. Via Akinsi, a partnership with electric vehicle manufacturer Jinpeng Group, it also makes electric vehicles, designed for people in cities and for last mile delivery.
The new partnership with Orel Group, a global conglomerate with expertise in software development, electric power systems and IT, will support the scaling up of production of both battery solutions and electric vehicles.
“Joining forces with Orel Group gives Anodox Group a global footprint and the last puzzle pieces to launch our technology to the global market. Our investment in Sri Lanka production shows both companies’ determination to introduce safe, affordable and reliable e-mobility,” says Theodore Zannakis, CEO and founder of Anodox Group.
Anodox and Orel IT, the Orel Group’s IT arm, are also joining forces on an AI platform and business for applications in mobility, energy and health. Among other things, it will further strengthen the design and development of their own energy systems and electric vehicles.
Joining the technology cluster at Lindholmen Science Park
“Orel Group and Anodox AB have embarked on a strategic partnership that will transform the digital technology and electric vehicle landscape by leveraging the combined expertise and resources. Together, we are poised to revolutionise the digital age and usher in a new era of sustainable mobility,” says Dr. Upendra Pieris, CEO at Orel IT.
The AI business, which is called Otilo, will be located at The Yard, at Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg. The old shipyard building has been transformed into an arena and workshop for tech companies. CEVT, Lynk & Co, Semcon and Heart Aerospace are a few of the neighbours.
“This is one of the best locations in Europe for developing Artificial Intelligence that can impact both the automotive and energy market. The Yard is a great location for Otilo, enabling a multinational cooperation in an environment that promotes innovation and collaboration. This will be our new home,” says Theodore Zannakis.
Kent Jellmund, our investment advisor for ICT, welcomes the announcement.
“I have followed Anodox on its exciting journey over the past year. It’s really gratifying that the company, with its cutting-edge battery technology, and Orel IT, Sri Lanka's largest IT company, are establishing their collaboration in Gothenburg, and at The Yard, the city's new hub for tech.”
