Textile and fashion in West Sweden and The Gothenburg region

West Sweden and The Gothenburg region fashion and textile sector blends a long, deeply rooted textile heritage with cuttingedge innovation and emerging talent. The region and West Sweden is home to renowned fashion companies and headquarters such as Lindex, KappAhl and Nudie Jeans, supported by leading research environments in nearby Borås and Trollhättan, including the Swedish School of Textiles and Wargön Innovation.

With Textile Movement, a major regional and national collaboration platform in West Sweden, we form a unique ecosystem covering all parts of the textile value chain, driving circular business models, creatitviy, sustainable materials and innovation.

A rapidly growing network

With a rapidly growing network of more than 700 industry actors collaborating around new knowledge and shared experiences with the EU’s new directives as a foundation, West Sweden is emerging as one of Europe’s most dynamic hubs for fashion, textiles and circular transformation.

Seminar series Fashion Facts an Fun #16

Three interesting insights from the Fashion, Facts & Fun seminar series

Fashion, Facts & Fun is our hybrid seminar series designed to support that transformation. Each session highlights timely topics and invites voices from across Europe who are driving progress in the industry.

  1. 1

Regulation is becoming a core driver of transformation

Across the conversations in Fashion, Facts & Fun, one theme is clear: the EU’s new directives are already reshaping the industry. New requirements such as Digital Product Passports for greater transparency and traceability, stronger rules against greenwashing, and extended producer responsibility are among the many measures that will influence the sector’s business models in the coming years.

  2. 2

Circularity is both a technical and cultural shift

The series highlights that circular business models depend not only on new systems – such as repair networks, recycling technologies and digital product passports – but also on new mindsets throughout the industry and consumers.

  3. 3

Creativity, identity and responsibility must move forward together

Several speakers have shown that textile and fashion’s cultural role in expression and belonging cannot be separated from climate, materials or working conditions. Future business models need to unite all these dimensions.

I found the seminar series extremely well organised, with strong engagement and thoughtful questions from participants. Initiatives like this are essential to fostering a shared European perspective on circular fashion. I'd be very happy to attend in person next time.
