Venture capital firm opens office in Gothenburg

Swedish investment company Wellstreet will open its first office in Gothenburg during February. The investment further strengthens the region’s tech scene, where Klarna and Northvolt have also announced plans to establish operations.

Wellstreet has dubbed the new facility Wellstreet and Friends and the aim is that it will become a hub for start-ups.

According to the company, the 500 sqm space will include offices and lounge spaces where its portfolio companies and broader network can come together for meetings, networking, collaboration and socialising.

“Wellstreet’s portfolio already includes a number of prominent businesses such as Brink Commerce, Future of Retail, Zalster and Textual that are headquartered in the city, yet there has never been a natural meeting place for the innovation ecosystem to come together, interact and evolve,” said Christian Zanders, a partner at Wellstreet, in a statement.

Gothenburg - a hub for talent and innovation

Wellstreet was founded in 2016 and it is headquartered in Stockholm. It is an active early investor and has over 30 portfolio companies.

“Gothenburg has always been the source of great ideas, talents and technologies. It’s now time for Wellstreet to establish a foundation in its centre to bring to the city and its innovators the attention they deserve,” said Christian Zanders.

New additions to Gothenburg's tech scene

In recent months, Swedish company Northvolt announced it is opening a new battery R&D centre in Gothenburg together with Volvo Cars. Klarna also announced it will open a new development hub in the city where it will employ up to 500 people.

In addition, Älvstranden Utveckling, Business Region Göteborg and Lindholmen Science Park are opening a new, collaborative arena at Lindholmen for start-ups and scale-ups, known as the Yard.
