Here we have everything from development and test arenas to universities and serial production. A dynamic industrial landscape where groundbreaking ideas in sustainable transportation and battery technology are transformed into successful global products and services.

Pioneering innovation and sustainability
Progressive brands including Volvo Cars, Volvo Group, Polestar, Einride, Heart Aerospace, Stena Line, Zeekr, Wireless Car, Novo Energy, Lynk & Co and Ecoride are headquartered and/or operate important R&D sites here.
The region is also home to many large and specialised tech, design and service suppliers to the automotive and mobility sector. Micromobility is a growing segment in the region with over 100 companies and approximately 5,600 employees.

Gothenburg is attracting major investments in mobility
- Polestar is investing in a new 80,000 sqm global HQ and design centre in the city centre, with space for 3,000 people.
- Volvo Cars and Northvolt have joined forces and via NovoEnergy have established an R&D centre, and in 2026 will open one of Europe’s largest battery gigafactories.
- The Volvo Group is also investing heavily in Campus Lundby, its global HQ in Gothenburg. It is also building a large-scale battery plant in nearby Mariestad.
- Geely continues to grow in Gothenburg. The company has established the Uni3 innovation campus, which gathers around 4,000 people and is home to Zeekr Technology Europe, Lynk&Co and EcarX.
- Volvo Cars is investing in the large-scale innovation cluster Näst Innovation Destination Torslanda, together with real estate companies Next Step Group and Vectura Fastigheter. The innovation neighbourhood will offer facilities and environments for testing and development, and gather actors within sustainable mobility.
Sites for collaboration and testing innovation in Gothenburg
Gothenburg offers many platforms and arenas for collaboration, development and testing. Here are a few examples:
- Lindholmen Science Park is home to around 400 tech savvy companies, and a key hub for our mobility cluster. It also acts as a platform for cross-disciplinary and cross-industry projects, connecting organisations in the private and public sectors and academia. It also hosts several of Sweden’s leading development projects within mobility, media and AI.
- Gothenburg Green City Zone is a large zone in the city where companies, researchers and the public sector are testing new technology for both vehicles and infrastructure with the aim of achieving emission-free transport by 2030.
- SEEL is Sweden’s new testbed for electromobility, which has its head office and main facility in Gothenburg. Companies can test prototypes and products in state-of-the-art facilities; everything from batteries, to electric motors and complete vehicle testing.
- AstaZero is a full-scale test environment, where products can be tested and certified in array of traffic environments and scenarios.
- MobilityXlab is a platform founded by Autoliv, Ericsson, Volvo Cars, the Volvo Group, and Zenuity. CEVT also joined later. Startups and companies are offered working space and direct contact with the founding companies to jointly develop solutions for the transportation of the future.
- Camp X is an innovation hub where startups within electromobility, automation, sustainability, connectivity and fintech can collaborate with the Volvo Group.
