Tata AutoComp acquires automotive components manufacturer
Indian conglomerate Tata AutoComp Systems has officially taken over automotive components manufacturer IAC Sweden. The acquisition saves the jobs of nearly 2,000 people in western Sweden.
In connection to the acquisition, IAC Sweden has also been rebranded to Artifex Systems AB.
Artifex Systems brings advanced manufacturing capabilities and a highly skilled workforce with deep expertise in automotive interior and exterior systems. Their strong commitment to quality complements Tata AutoComp’s focus on delivering value to global customers. We look forward to leveraging these strengths to strengthen our competitiveness and expand our global footprint.
said Manoj Kolhatkar, MD and CEO at Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd.
IAC Sweden, which has a turnover of about USD 800 million, went bankrupt in June 2024. An appointed liquidator has run the business since then. It has three sites in western Sweden: Gothenburg, Färgelanda and Skara, where it has a workforce of 1,850 people.
Tata AutoComp described the acquisition as an important milestone for the group as it strengthens its international presence.
Artifex Systems AB has a rich heritage of delivering high-quality solutions for both interior and exterior, and together we will build on this,
said Arvind Goel, Vice Chairman, Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd, in a press release.
Positive for Gothenburg and West Sweden’s automotive industry
For West Sweden, the completion of the acquisition brings a global industrial actor into a value chain that is crucial for the automotive industry.
Besides securing jobs, the acquisition ensures the continued production and delivery of components to key customers, including Swedish OEMs Volvo, Volvo Cars and Scania. In the longer-term, Tata AutoComp’s growing presence in the region will also add value and create opportunities.
“Tata AutoComp is a major international player, with partnerships with several of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers. Their decision to continue production here is testament to the expertise and industrial strength that defines our region,” says Patik Andersson, CEO at Business Region Göteborg, the region's economic development agency.
“For the Gothenburg region, strong industry, robust suppliers and secure jobs are fundamental. This takeover is both welcome and important for the future.”
