Companies with the most employees

The majority of the largest companies in the Gothenburg region engage in research and development at a world-leading level. Volvo Cars, with its development, production and head office in Gothenburg, is the single largest employer in the private sector in the region.

The Volvo Group is also headquartered in Gothenburg and has several business areas here, including Volvo Technology and Volvo Trucks. In total, it employs 12,500 people in the Gothenburg region.

Other major employers in Gothenburg include Chalmers University of Technology; biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, which has one of it's globally strategic R&D centres in the city; bearings giant SKF; and defense company SAAB.

Companies with the highest turnover

The list of companies headquartered in Gothenburg reporting the highest turnover is topped by the Volvo Group and Volvo Cars, which are also the two companies with the highest turnover in Sweden. SKF had the third highest turnover in the Gothenburg region, followed by the Stena Sphere and holdings company Carl Bennet.

Companies with the highest market value

Of the companies headquartered in the Gothenburg region, the Volvo Group has the highest market value followed by the investment company Latour, Volvo Cars and SKF. Property companies Balder, Castellum and Wallenstam also made the top 10 list as did life science companies Getinge and Vitrolife, as well as retail company Next Wave Group.
