Gothenburg is Sweden’s best logistics location 2023
With its strategic location, expanding infrastructure and new logistics operations, the Gothenburg region has once again been named Sweden’s best logistics location, by the Swedish trade journal Intelligent Logistik.
Since 2005 Intelligent Logistik has assessed Sweden’s best logistics location, as a guide for logistics companies who want to establish operations in Sweden. The locations are assessed across a range of categories including infrastructure, new logistics facilities, the flow of goods, competence and the climate for collaboration.
In last year's list, Gothenburg lost its natural position as the leader among Sweden's best logistics locations - a position it had held for nearly 20 years in succession. But today, Intelligent Logistik announced that the Gothenburg region has reclaimed the leader's jersey.
“It's great that we have regained first place! Gothenburg has long been one of the leading logistics hubs in Scandinavia,” says Pär Abrahamsson, investment advisor for logistics at Business Region Göteborg.
“The city has created a unique and attractive platform that attracts companies and investors from all over the world and it is good that this is reflected in the media, even though here we are of course confident in our position as Sweden's logistics capital. Our region is a natural node for industries with large flows of goods and for companies in freight logistics, warehousing and terminal management.”
Business Region Göteborg offers an all-inclusive service for international companies that want to establish operations in the region. We offer tailored information, advice and guidance on everything from starting a company in Sweden, and building business case to helping you find the right location for your business.
“Finding the right logistics location is crucial for companies to maximise their operations and streamline their supply chains. Thanks to our strategic position by the coast, with direct access to markets in Europe and Asia, Gothenburg is an ideal location for companies that want to expand and reach out to global customers,” says Pär.
Demand within logistics is being driven largely by developments in e-commerce, which are expected to continue in the coming years. Warehouses, logistics and trade are increasingly merging, which sets new demands, and the rise of e-commerce is driving the need for digitalisation.

Intelligent Logistik’s motivation:
The Gothenburg region has long been Sweden's logistics capital with an excellent distribution location with access to the Nordic region's largest container port, which stood strong even through the pandemic; with stable container volumes and greatly increased train freight volumes. Upcoming multi-billion kronor investments in the port with a fairway deepening also provide good conditions for future growth. The region itself is a strong consumer market and an important node for the Swedish automotive industry. Borås also strengthens its position as one of the country's leading competence centers for e-commerce logistics. Through Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, the region is the country's leading competence center for logistics research and education, and consolidates its role as a node for Swedish industry and a national innovation center for the mobility of the future. Gothenburg has historically had exceptional growth for logistics, a development which, however, slowed somewhat in 2022 when only approx. 70,000 square meters were added in the region. In the past year, however, new land for logistics operations has been added both around Landvetter and at Hisingen. This means that Gothenburg takes new points in the new land criterion, and regains first place from last year's riser Helsingborg. In 2022, the Logistik & Transport fair also returned with physical visitors to the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre. It is the Nordic region's leading event for logistics and strengthens Gothenburg's position as a leading logistics city.
