German AI company opens sales and development site in Gothenburg
German company Understand.ai has made its first foreign investment and established operations at Lindholmen, in the heart of Gothenburg’s fast growing mobility cluster.
Understand.ai is a leading supplier of solutions for generating ground truth data. It specializes in automated annotation, and utilises machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies.
“Gothenburg is an excellent place to find talent in the IT and automotive fields. Furthermore, by establishing the new site, we are moving closer to our local customers and strengthening our access to the Swedish automotive cluster,” says Jürgen Daunis, CEO of Understand.ai.
The investment is estimated to create 10-15 direct jobs in the city. Local Andreas Martin will head the Swedish operations.
“I am very pleased to announce that Andreas Martin has taken over as the head of engineering and site manager [in Gothenburg]. He is an experienced leader with a background in software and engineering in the automotive, IT, and telecommunications industry,” says Jürgen Daunis.
The company is part of the dSpace Group and has its headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany. It makes use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to reduce manual annotation and deliver higher volumes of high-quality ground truth annotations within shorter timeframes.
“The establishment of Understand.ai in Gothenburg highlights the region’s strength in terms of skills and capabilities. Besides the market opportunities the company sees here, a key driver for the investment is the large pool of talent we have in our region. At the same time, Understand.ai’s new operations is positive for the growth of Gothenburg as a key hub for AI in the Nordics,” says Joel Görsch, investment advisor for automotive and mobility at Business Region Göteborg.
Business Region Göteborg has supported the company by providing information, advice and contacts to facilitate the establishment process and make Gothenburg more accessible.
