EVS38 in Gothenburg - a key platform for the e-mobility sector

Gothenburg is the automotive capital of Sweden and a global leader in innovation and electromobility. In June 2025, the city will host the Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition - the world's largest trade fair and conference on electrified transport. For the first time ever, this international event is being held in Sweden and the timing couldn't be better.

The Electrical Vehicle Symposium (EVS) is the leading global meeting place for electrification of transport. Established in 1969, EVS attracts a diverse audience from around the world, including vehicle manufacturers, technology suppliers, researchers, policy makers and anyone interested in developments in electromobility. Around 10,000 visitors are expected as the 38th edition of the conference is being held in Gothenburg, 15-18 June 2025.

A meeting place for the world's leading experts

For four days, the Swedish Exhibition Centre will be transformed into a melting pot of innovation, research and future technology. World-leading companies, researchers and politicians will meet to discuss, showcase and shape the future of electrified transport. Around 300 exhibitors from 70 countries are expected and nearly 400 experts having submitted their scientific papers as part of the Call for Abstracts.

“EVS38 is more than a conference - it is a meeting place for the world's leading experts, companies and decision-makers in electrification and sustainable mobility. Attendees will gain insights into the latest research, learn about cutting-edge technologies and make valuable contacts. For companies and organisations that want to be at the forefront, it is a must to be there,” says Per Österström, Head of Clusters & Innovation at Business Region Göteborg.

The program will focus on a new geographical area each day. The opening day highlights Sweden and the broader Nordic region as global leaders in e-mobility. With a strong culture of sustainability, advanced policies and successful public-private partnerships, this region serves as an inspiration for the world.

Day two shifts focus to Europe’s multifaceted e-mobility landscape. With diverse approaches across member states, the challenge lies in harmonizing strategies to maintain Europe’s leadership in sustainable transport.

The final day expands the perspective to the global stage, emphasizing the need for cross-border cooperation and knowledge sharing to make e-mobility an international success story.

Green transition and key issues for Europe's competitiveness

The EVS38 will be a key platform to discuss issues affecting competitiveness and the transition to a sustainable transport sector. With the EU's ambitions to advance its positions in the green industrial transition, topics such as new legislation, technological innovations and financing will be on the agenda.

Discussions will centre on areas such as:

  • Green industrial transition and digital technologies - what is needed to drive development and boost competitiveness?
  • Investment and financing - what is needed to accelerate the transition?
  • Skills supply - how do we secure the right workforce and skills for the needs of the future?

In addition, new EU rules will come into force in 2025, including stricter CO₂ emission standards for both light and heavy vehicles and the EU Data Act, which regulates how data can be used and shared. These changes are expected to fundamentally affect the electrified transport value chain and create increased pressure on the deployment of charging infrastructure and other supporting systems.

“EVS38 will be an arena to discuss these issues and share knowledge and expertise between different actors. With that in mind, this event is very timely,” says Per Österström.

Gothenburg - the automotive capital of Sweden

The Gothenburg region is home to testbeds and projects that enable the development and demonstration of everything from autonomous electric vehicles to wireless charging of taxis. Together with leading research centers and a strong business community, the city is an ideal location for EVS38. The region also has a complete value chain in electromobility and a strong tradition of collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector. This makes Gothenburg the perfect place to showcase and experience the innovations of the future in sustainable transport and electromobility.

“Hosting EVS38 is a natural extension of the City of Gothenburg's work to create the conditions for future transport solutions. Gothenburg has long been a driving force in sustainable mobility and is today a hub for research, development and innovation in the automotive industry. EVS38 is a unique opportunity to showcase our innovative power, our progress in electrification and our ambition to become a pioneer in the transition,” says Per Österström.
