Logistics in Gothenburg

Gothenburg is the logistics capital of Sweden, perfectly located in the heart of Scandinavia. Seamless connections by sea, land and air put the whole world within reach. Major players in logistics and transport operate here, advanced research is carried out here, and cutting-edge technologies are being developed. Get involved and shape the future of logistics.

The central hub for logistics in the Nordics

With its growing population, strong infrastructure, strategic location and thriving industrial clusters, Gothenburg is a highly attractive location for progressive companies. The region has long been recognised as Sweden’s top logistics location, and in 2025, the industry magazine Dagens Logistik named it the best logistics location in the Nordics.

Home to Scandinavia’s largest container port, Gothenburg serves as a key hub for imports and exports. Some 20% of Sweden’s foreign trade passes through the Port of Gothenburg, as does 57% of the country's container traffic. It offers direct services to ports across the world and has strong rail links to and from the whole of Sweden and Norway. With large investments being made in infrastructure, electrification, digitization and the energy transition, it aims to become the world’s most competitive and sustainable port.

Just 25km from the city lies Göteborg Landvetter Airport, a major international airport, which is among the most climate-smart airports in the world. It is an important hub for intercontinental cargo and offers a wide range of destinations.

Master of collaboration

The city is home to multiple collaborative initiatives that are driving progress in sustainable logistics and transport. One example is the Tranzero initiative, where the Port of Gothenburg, the Volvo Group, Scania and Stena Line are working together to speed up the transition to fossil-free fuels in the transport sector. Another is Gothenburg Green City Zone, where public, private and academic actors are collaborating, and the city serves as testing ground for developing an emission-free transportation system by 2030.

Fertile ground for logistics startups

The number of startups in transport and logistics has grown rapidly in recent years, particularly in last-mile solutions. Technology now plays a central role in supply chains, with many new companies focusing on digitalisation. Gothenburg’s strengths in logistics, ICT and mobility are resulting in innovative companies who operate at the intersection of these sectors. Electric self-driving truck company Einride; Hugo Delivery with its autonomous delivery robots; and Adnavem with its logistics tech platform, are a few examples.

Expanding logistics nodes

Several key areas, ideal for logistics operations, are under expansion. There are opportunities near both the port and airport, as well as in Viared, located along the Motorway 40, near the eCommerce and textile cluster at Borås. The future hubs Gateway Säve and Link 40, both with good connections to the port and airport, present opportunities for warehousing and logistics innovation.
