The Gothenburg region continues to play a key role in Sweden's growth journey. The region has shown stronger economic growth than other metropolitan regions since the bottom of the financial crisis, especially in manufacturing and knowledge-intensive services.
Since 2009, more than 36,000 new companies have been established in the region. Together, they fuel innovation and growth, supported by major investments in research and sustainable development. In fact, 35% of Sweden’s private R&D spending takes place here, which is nearly SEK 10 billion more than in the Stockholm region.
