Näst Innovation Destination Torslanda

Nāst Innovation Destination Torslanda is a major project aiming to strengthen the region's competitiveness in sustainable mobility. It brings together businesses, the city and property developers in a long-term collaboration. Business Region Göteborg has played a central role in facilitating dialogue, structure, and a shared strategic direction.

Gothenburg as a city is incredibly central to Volvo Cars' development. I'm impressed by the response we have received regarding our plans for Torslanda, and happy with the broad cooperation we have to strengthen the competence provision and the development in Hisingen and Gothenburg in general

Nest, Charging Volvo in a local energy system.

Background

Volvo Cars identified a growing need to work more closely with businesses, talent and research partners to navigate the transition towards electrified, digitalised and more sustainable mobility.

At the same time, the City of Gothenburg shared the ambition of strengthening the region's competitiveness as a global centre for mobility innovation. The city also saw an opportunity to create stronger links between Torslanda and nearby innovation environments such as Lindholmen Innovation District and Campus Lundby.

As discussions progressed, a shared vision emerged around sustainable urban development, talent attraction and future transport solutions. Business Region Göteborg contributed strategic guidance, facilitated collaboration and helped align the objectives of industry, the city and other stakeholders.

How we supported the establishment

Request

The challenge was to bring together several strong initiatives and environments into a coherent whole. The transformation of the automotive industry requires faster innovation, closer collaboration, and greater attractiveness for global talent and businesses.

Solution

Business Region Göteborg acts as a coordinating partner in the collaboration between Volvo Cars, the City of Gothenburg, and the property companies Next Step Group and Vectura Fastigheter. The work focuses on creating a shared understanding of goals and needs, connecting the project with other leading mobility environments in the region, and providing guidance on investment, establishment, and collaboration.

Result

The initiative is resulting in the establishment of Nāst Innovation Destination Torslanda as a well-integrated and complementary innovation destination in Gothenburg. When complete, the area will encompass 200,000-300,000 sqm of modern spaces that foster innovation and collaboration.

Value impact

In the longer term, the project strengthens Gothenburg's global competitiveness and position as one of the few regions in the world with a complete mobility cluster. It expands opportunities for companies in Gothenburg to collaborate, grow, and attract international talent.
