International House Gothenburg

Join International House Gothenburg for a practical, hands-on session designed to help you make better sense of your Swedish pension, with a particular focus on occupational pension (ITP 1).

We will walk through the Swedish pensions system, explain how your employer's contributions are managed, and explore important choices around investments, insurance, salary exchange and inheritance.

What will the session cover?

1. Why your pension matters

Understand why planning for retirement matters and where your future retirement income comes from.

2. Understanding the Swedish pension system

Get an overview of the three main components: public pension (income pension and premium pension), occupational pension and private savings. We will also look at the option of transferring premium pension to your spouse.

3. Occupational pension (ITP 1)

Find out what your employer contributes, how the payments are managed through Collectum, and where your pension money is invested.

4. Protection and insurance

Explore the difference between repayment protection and inheritance gain, as well as family protection, TGL life insurance and sickness benefits.

5. Salary exchange, withdrawals and inheritance

Learn about salary exchange (löneväxling), when you can start withdrawing your pension and what happens to your pension savings if you pass away.

6. Choosing your pension funds

Understand your investment options and explore whether Alecta's default solution or other fund choices may be appropriate for your circumstances.

A hands-on session:

You are welcome to bring your phone or laptop if you would like to explore your own pension information during the session. Alongside understanding how the pension system works, you can access your individual pension accounts and navigate the available information to look at:

  • minPension – to get an overview of your pension from different sources.
  • Avtalat – to explore your occupational pension and the choices available under ITP1.

Who should attend?

This session is particularly relevant for international professionals working in Sweden who have an ITP 1 occupational pension and want to understand how their pension works, where their contributions are invested and what choices they can make.

Whether you are relatively new to the Swedish pension system or have been working here for several years, this session will help you become more informed and confident about your pension.
