How Your Conduct Can Affect Your Residence Permit in Sweden: Understanding the New Rules
Since 13 July 2026, stricter requirements concerning "vandel" a person's conduct, honesty and compliance with rules, apply in certain Swedish residence permit cases.
What types of conduct may be taken into account? Who may be affected, and how could the new requirements influence an application for, or extension of, a residence permit?
Join us at International House Gothenburg for an informative seminar exploring the new requirements under Swedish migration law. Through practical examples, you will gain a clearer understanding of how the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) may assess conduct and individual circumstances and have the opportunity to ask questions.
What will the seminar cover?
During the session, we will explore:
- Understanding the terminology: What do good conduct, honesty and compliance with rules mean in the context of Swedish migration law?
- Who may be affected: Which residence permit applicants and holders may fall within the scope of the new requirements?
- What may be considered: How factors such as repeated non-compliance with rules, unpaid debts, incorrect information provided in connection with public benefits, dishonest means of support or links to criminal networks may be relevant in certain cases.
- Beyond criminal offenses: How conduct other than criminal convictions may be considered when assessing an individual's circumstances.
The seminar will include practical examples and an opportunity to ask questions.
Who should attend?
This seminar is particularly relevant for international professionals, employees, entrepreneurs, family members and others who currently hold a Swedish residence permit or are planning to apply for one.
Whether you are new to Sweden or have lived here for several years, the session can help you better understand the requirements that may be relevant to your situation.
