Finding new solutions for providing a faster transition in the construction and property industry

Roughly 75 dedicated companies from the construction and property industry have joined Gothenburg's platform for climate-neutral construction, a local platform for strategic cooperation initiated by Business Region Göteborg.

The purpose of the platform is to make the entire value chain in the construction and property industry gather to find new solutions for providing a faster transition together with the City of Gothenburg and the academy. The collaboration will be based on needs in various challenge areas, including everything from regulations to new materials.

Since Gothenburg's platform for climate-neutral construction was launched in August 2022, roughly 75 companies have joined. And new companies keep on joining, the interest is overwhelming.

“In 2019, the construction and property industry accounted for 21 percent of Sweden's greenhouse gas emissions and 35 percent of the waste in the country, so it is an incredibly important industry to change. And now it's really happening. There is an enormous commitment everywhere – the industry wants real change, the city wants real change, academia wants real change. But we need to collaborate to succeed, no one can do this by themselves, and we need to learn from each other. And with the platform, Gothenburg is leading the way.”

Climate footprint that is close to zero by 2030

The Swedish Parliament has decided that Sweden shall have zero net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2045 at the latest. In line with this, the building and construction sector has a roadmap that shows the responsibility the industry is willing to take to reach the national goal. Besides, Gothenburg City's Municipal Council has adopted the goal that Gothenburg will have a climate footprint that is close to zero by 2030, where climate-neutral construction is an important strategic area to reach the goal.
