A place for new ideas
With world-class business incubators and science parks, and a supportive and collaborative environment for entrepreneurs, Gothenburg is an ideal base for emerging companies.
Gothenburg is an entrepreneurial city with nearly endless possibilities for innovators to develop their ideas, test their concepts and find successful collaboration opportunities.
Ever since the city was founded in 1621, we have made the most of ideas and developed them into successful businesses. To continue in that spirit, Gothenburg has invested in numerous business incubators, accelerators, science parks and cross-sector testbeds.
As the birthplace of Volvo, SKF and Hasselblad, among many others, Gothenburg has a long track-record of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Success breeds success and with international companies like Volvo Cars and AstraZeneca, Gothenburg’s entrepreneurs have a good foundation. There is also a trend where the region’s big innovative companies are really opening up and sharing their resources, facilities and knowledge with startups and emerging companies. The BioVentureHub (life science) and the Mobility Xlab (automotive) are already in place and similar initiatives like Volvo’s Campus Lundby are set to follow.
Gothenburg's ecosystem for start-ups
Everything begins with an idea
In Gamlestaden (the Old Town) where Gothenburg originated, the city has established a lively meeting place YesBox for entrepreneurs and innovators who are in need of development and support to bounce off ideas and test their thoughts. These ideas are given the opportunity to flourish and grow strong.
