Lindholmen tests new all-in-one travel app
The LIMA project has launched a large-scale pilot study where it will test a new mobility service in the Lindholmen area in Gothenburg.
“What is unique about LIMA is the collaboration between 19 different partners,” says Sofia Löfstrand, project manager at Lindholmen Science Park and responsible for LIMA.
On 19 February, the project launched its new app that offers travel with various modes of transport, including public transport, electric hire cars, car sharing and bicycles. It also provides real time updates on services, and with a single click can send a receipt to registered employers.
“The aim of LIMA is to simplify local and regional trips, decrease congestion at Lindholmen and contribute to a more sustainable city. We do this by developing and testing a new service,” says Sofia Löfstrand.
The pilot study will involve up to 1,000 people who work in the Lindholmen area, who will use the new app throughout 2020. During this time, the solution will be tested, evaluated and further developed. Ericsson, Sigma, Altran and Zenuity are a few of the companies already connected to the service.
“The project is specifically interesting for companies at Lindholmen as many of them are part of the vehicle or transport industry. Car sharing and shared mobility is developing rapidly and is highly interesting for the participating companies and their future development,” says Sofia Löfstrand.
Involves 19 different partners
The project has three areas: the app, the mobility hubs and the digital traffic information, and these are being developed by the partners to complement the pilot project.
The City of Gothenburg’s parking company and the county’s public transport operator, Västtrafik, for example, are two of the partners developing the mobility hubs at Lindholmen. These are the physical areas where mobility services such as public transport, parking, car-sharing, rental bikes and various additional services will be physically connected. These mobility hubs, like other elements in the project are being developed in collaboration with other LIMA partners.
“What’s unique about LIMA is the collaboration between 19 different partners, where start-ups, large private companies, public corporations and researchers are all part of the mix,” says Sofia Löfstrand.
LIMA’s ambition is to produce a scalable solution that is financially sustainable and that can be kept operational after the project is finished.
The project is also expected to generate substantial knowledge about technical solutions for P2P car sharing, business models for Mobility-as-a-Service and necessary policy adjustments for implementation.
LIMA is a Drive Sweden project and is part of the Swedish Government’s innovation partnership programme, “The next generation’s travel and transport”. Drive Sweden is hosted by Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg.
Collaboration – the Gothenburg way
Three examples of projects and initiatives where collaboration is helping drive innovation in the region.
- Electricity is an exciting collaboration where industry, academia and society are developing and testing solutions throughout Gothenburg for tomorrow's electrified transport. Quiet, exhaust-free buses, ferries and even heavy vehicles powered by renewable electricity are included in the demo arena.
- AI of Sweden is an initiative involving industry, public organisations and academia that focuses on accelerating AI research and innovation through sharing knowledge and data, co-location of competences, and collaborative projects. During its first year, 11 projects were launched involving 60 different partners, including actors in the automotive and mobility industries.
- Mobility Xlab is a platform that offers emerging companies with mobility solutions the possibility to collaborate with leading Swedish firms. It was founded by CEVT, Ericsson, Volvo Cars, Volvo Group, Veoneer and Zenuity.
