HCL awarded the key to Gothenburg
IT giant HCL Technologies has been awarded the key to the heart of Gothenburg following its recent large scale establishment in the city.
“It means a great deal for the region’s global competitiveness that the IT sector is strong, as digilisation is driving many other processes,” says Patrik Andersson, CEO at Business Region Göteborg.
HCL Technologies currently has a turnover of more than 7.4 billion dollars and nearly 120,000 employees in 32 countries.
Earlier this year HCL opened a new global delivery centre in Gothenburg with more than 150 employees, where the focus is on mainframe services and services for the automotive industry. Last year, the company also acquired Volvo IT's external business.
Business Region Göteborg and Business Sweden have worked together for several years with assisting HCL to set up in the region.
“HCL is a leading IT service provider. The company’s expansion is positive for the Gothenburg region and I hope we see its businesses here grow even more,” says Patrik Andersson.
“There is great interest from within the IT sector, from international companies that want to establish in Gothenburg, and we receive many requests. It is highly important for the region’s global competitiveness that the IT sector is strong, as digitalization is driving many other processes within, for example, automotive, artificial intelligence, safety, edtech, space technology and gaming. Therefore, in the long-term it is strategically important that we attract existing IT competence to the region and encourage young people to choose the IT path and remain in the sector.”
The key to the heart of Gothenburg was presented to HCL by Mayor Anne-Sofie Hermansson at the Expat Christmas Event, an annual welcoming event that Business Region Göteborg arranges for newly arrived international professionals and their families.
As part of the efforts to recruit international talent, Business Region Göteborg, together with the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce, Region Västra Götaland and actors from the business community and academia, has also produced a platform movetogothenburg.com. The site is a guide and resource for people who want to live, work and study in Gothenburg and West Sweden.
In addition, Business Region Göteborg recently launched the site investingothenburg.com for international companies that are interested in establishing or investing in the Gothenburg region.
