‘Gothenburg – the logistics capital of Sweden’

The Gothenburg region has again been named Sweden’s best logistics location by the trade journal Intelligent Logistik. The Port of Gothenburg, new logistics facilities, and advanced research and education were a few of the reasons for the accolade.

In this year’s ranking, Intelligent Logistik assessed Sweden’s top 25 logistic locations across six areas: logistics space, the flow of goods/geography, competence, infrastructure and available land. A new sub-criteria for this year, within infrastructure, was electrical capacity.

Overall, Gothenburg topped the list with 94 points out of a possible 100. Its nearest rivals were the Helsingborg and Örebro regions with 92 and 90 points respectively.

According to the trade journal, Gothenburg is the “logistics capital of Sweden”. It has topped the rankings every year since 2005.

In terms of new logistics facilities, the Gothenburg region is a clear leader with more than 650,000 sqm added during 2015-2019. A further 190,000 sqm will be added during 2020.

In its motivation, Intelligent Logistik also highlighted the Port of Gothenburg, the Nordic’s largest port in terms container volumes; the port’s effective rail network; the strong regional collaboration through Business Region Göteborg; as well as the region’s cutting edge research and education in logistics.

But Gothenburg also has challenges, according to the trade journal. One of them is bringing forward plans for new land at the pace that the market demands, while a second is the region’s electrical capacity, which may hamper growth in the future.
