#1 Foodtech start-up raises EUR 24 million

During the first quarter of 2022, exciting Gothenburg start-up Mycorena completed a Series A funding round and raised EUR 24 million, approximately SEK 240 million. The funding round was the largest of its kind in the Nordics in the alternative protein space. The article was our most read piece during 2022!

#3 Volvo Cars invests billions in manufacturing plant

In February, Volvo Cars announced it is investing SEK 10 billion, approximately EUR 1 billion, to upgrade its Torslanda manufacturing plant in Gothenburg. The planned investment is part of the steps the company is taking to become a fully electric car company by 2030.

IT consultancy company Nagarro established an office in Gothenburg in May. With several big name customers here, the global company sees a lot of potential in Gothenburg.

#5 Northvolt and Volvo Cars choose Gothenburg

In February, Northvolt and Volvo Cars announced plans for a new battery gigafactory in Gothenburg. The new plant will be operational in 2025 and create up to 3,000 direct jobs in Gothenburg and generate thousands of additional jobs in the region.

#6 New direct flights between New York and Gothenburg

Just days before 2022 came to a close, SAS announced new direct flights between Gothenburg and New York starting in late-April. The new route has been on the region’s companies’ wish list for a long time and improves connections between Gothenburg and the US, the region’s largest export market.

In September, sustainable aviation pioneer Heart Aerospace announced plans to scale-up its R&D and production of electric aircraft in Gothenburg. The investment is perhaps the most exciting development the European aviation industry has seen in decades.

During Q1, Swedish investment company Wellstreet opened its first office in Gothenburg, a 500 sqm hub for start-ups located in the city centre.

In November Novo Energy, a joint-venture between Northvolt and Volvo Cars, was awarded the Key to Gothenburg, for its investments in a new battery gigafactory and R&D centre in Gothenburg.
