First Frihamnen development underway
Waterfront Cabins is the first residential project in the area and construction began during the autumn. The homes are prefabricated and the development is moving along quickly. The first residents are set to move in next month and the entire production will be complete in 2021.
“Complete apartments are built in the factory and then we deliver them to the site where they are being installed. For the most part they are ready for tenants directly,” Mats Svensson, CEO at Svenska Hem told local newspaper GöteborgDirekt.
Frihamnen, which is located in central Gothenburg, is an old industrial part of the city where extensive development is planned. Step-by-step a new neighbourhood will emerge and by 2040, the area will grow by 9,000 homes and workplaces for 15,000 people.
Frihamnen is one of seven districts in the River City project, where 5 million sqm of commercial and residential space is being developed in central Gothenburg, along both banks of the river.
Waterfront Cabins is being developed by Tempohousing Scandinavia and Brofred Bygg och Entreprenad, part of the Svenska Hem group. The apartments are temporary and will remain in place for up to 15 years. They are all fully-equipped rentals with one room and a sleeping loft, and are designed for companies, students and young adults.
