Front-runner in sustainability

Elevate your business in the Nordic capital of getting things done

Sustainability characterizes the development of Gothenburg, as we make the transition to increasingly sustainable services, products and methods. When it comes to reducing the negative impact on the climate and environment, we have gone from words to action.

Leading the way in sustainable development

Sweden is one of the global leaders in sustainable development, with Gothenburg established as a frontrunner through its focus on innovation and collaboration. A key ingredient in the success lies in an active involvement of citizens, businesses, academia and politicians.

Gothenburg is strongly committed to achieving fossil independence by 2030 and is implementing tangible measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially in the energy, renovation, and mobility sectors. Notably, 99% of public transport in Gothenburg's county runs on renewable energy, and the city aims to have a completely fossil-free transport system by 2030.

The city is recognized as one of the EU's 100 climate-neutral cities by 2030 and has been named the world’s most sustainable city destination seven times. Additionally, it has been chosen as a mentor city, leading Europe's green transition in a smart city initiative by the European Commission.
